I don’t sleep very well

My name is Stone Evans and I’m the founder of sleephacker.net

I started this site because I don’t sleep very well at night, and I’m determined to change that.

I don't sleep very well

A few of my current sleep issues are that I wake up frequently, I get up and go to the bathroom several times each night and when tracking my sleep using an Oura Ring my REM and deep sleep numbers are rather low.

I have also been having a hard time staying in bed with my wife during the night (not her fault), and will regularly migrate to the living room to sleep on the couch. Truth is, the couch isn’t very comfortable but for some reason just being by myself as I toss and turn throughout the night is more comforting to me than staying in my own bed at night. Some studies suggest that sleeping separately is one way to get better sleep.

A good thing is that I don’t ruminate or have a restless mind. My thoughts are normally very calm and when I do wake up at night (which is quite frequently), I can usually go back to sleep in a short period of time.

I’ve been a long-time student of some of the top “biohackers” and health educators in the field and incorporate a number of different strategies I’ve learned over time to improve my sleep, but I’m definitely not getting the results I want… yet.

At the time of this writing, I am 47 years old, 6’3″ and 210lbs. I know that I’m carrying some extra weight and that I have some underlying hormone and health disregulations that I aim to correct over time.

Until about the last year, I regularly drank alcohol in the evenings and while I usually didn’t get “drunk”, I really enjoyed the feeling of a buzz and would often go to sleep with some of that feeling. After 30 years of consistent alcohol consumption, I’m confident I’ve thrown some things off in my system that don’t correct themselves overnight.

I’m a very active person and play competitive tennis a couple of times every week. I definitely notice that sleep is even more inefficient for me on the evenings I’ve played tennis during the day.

My goal with this website is to prioritize achieving great sleep in my life. I want to learn from some of the top sleep experts in the world, utilize some of the emerging tools and technologies to assist me in tracking and improving my sleep and to share my journey and experiences with those who find their way here.

I’m currently learning how to start a podcast and plan to soon start a Sleep Hacker podcast where I will interview authors, product creators and other wise and experienced people in the world of sleep. In doing this, my goal is to grow my own knowledge and steadily improve my sleep by taking action on what I learn.

Of course, in starting this journal and a podcast online, I intend for this to be a public and shared experience where I can help other people learn more about sleep and ways to improve it in their own lives.

There will be a lot of experimentation and my goal is to share what I’m doing here in this journal. I’ll try different supplements, lifestyle changes, sleep tools and trackers, etc. and report to myself and my readers the results that I observe along the way.

And so it begins… Here’s to a better night sleep! 😀
